System Center 2012 : what’s new in Royalty

23 Apr

What has changed

· System Center 2012 is a new product offering from Microsoft to enable integrated cloud management needs. It is not the “next version” of pre-System Center  2012 products. Instead this is a new integrated product which includes capabilities from all standalone products of pre-System Center  2012 portfolio and also includes additional capabilities in the form of net new components.

· Licenses of earlier versions of System Center sold with Embedded Maintenance (EM) prior to April 1st, 2012 are eligible to be upgraded to System Center 2012 as outlined in the product guide. This is a one time grant being offered to allow customers to transition to System Center 2012.

· Licenses of earlier versions of System Center sold after April 1st, 2012  will not be eligible for upgrade to System Center 2012 even if they were sold with embedded maintenance. This is to prevent the situation where customers buy the older versions of System Center at a lower price and get a free upgrade to the new integrated product.

Call to action :

· Review the April 2012 product list to understand the migration path for System Center licenses sold with Embedded Maintenance.

· ISVs that had an active agreement when System Center was on the product list can continue selling licenses of older versions of System Center  until April 1st, 2014 through the ISVR program.

· After April 1st, 2012 ISVs should not sell Embedded Maintenance with new licenses of older versions of System Center since these licenses will not be eligible for upgrades to System Center 2012

· ISVs can continue selling renewal Embedded Maintenance on licenses of older versions of System Center sold prior to April 1st, 2012 and these licenses will be eligible for upgrade to System Center 2012 within the program guidelines for EM renewal.
